ABOUT CONNIE

Connie was born and raised in Montana before relocating to Wyoming in 1980 with her husband and young family. Connie balanced the job of mother, wife and student until she completed her first nursing degree in 1986. Her academic training provided a number of different opportunities in the nursing field but a forensic nursing career made itself apparent when she attended a seminar on gunshot and stab wounds taught by the founding president of the International Association of Forensic Nurses in 1991. From that date forward, her focus has been the development of a life long journey of education in professional forensic nursing.

It was her 20 years of trauma and emergency nursing at a regional medical center providing experience in critical care, management and program development along with her training in forensic nursing that landed her the position of death investigator in the Natrona County Coroner's Office. She served a short forensic internship in the office before being hired.

After long-time coroner, Dr. James Thorpen retired in August, 2009, Connie experienced the screening process of the Natrona County Republican Party Central Committee before being appointed by the County Commissioners in August, 2009. She was sworn into office September 1, 2009 to finish Dr. Thorpen's term knowing she would run for coroner in the upcoming election.

The transition into office has been a natural evolutionary move for Connie. The position has been an extension of what she has prepared for her entire professional career. As Robert Hendry, chairman of the Natrona County Commission stated upon her appointment, "She can hit the ground running".

Connie fully intends to stay in office to continue implementing the improvements in the office the day she was sworn in: to practice her life long work ethic, to improve and maintain professional relationships, to provide higher standards as a coroner and to participate in community development.
